Nothing says 'vote for our party' quite like blaming voters for their white slate of candidates

Democrats are peculiar creatures.

How's this for "get out the vote" motivation?

Democratic Party National Committee chairman Tom Perez says he's not to blame for the Democratic Party's now all-white lineup of candidates for president.  The blame goes to those dirty rotten racist voters — who incidentally are Democrats.

Beth Baumann at Townhall reports:

According to Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Tom Perez, voters are responsible for who lands on the stage. And it's voters' fault that the stage lacks any diversity.

"We've set forth a clear set of transparent, inclusive rules," Perez said during an interview on MSNBC. "We set those rules out in advance. And it's for the voters to decide."

"If you want to make sure that a candidate of color makes the debate stage, when a pollster calls you, make sure you make that preference felt because that is how you move the polling needle and, again, the voters are the ones who are making these decisions," the DNC chair explained.

Those weasel words are being prompted by statements like this:

A Democratic presidential campaign field that was once touted as the most diverse in history has been whittled down to six candidates on its debate stage, all of them white. For Oakland Democratic Rep. Barbara Lee, that's a problem.

Lee says the Democratic National Committee's rules for determining who can participate in its presidential debates is "systematically discriminatory" against people of color.

This takes some impressive logic, given that the rules were known earlier, and nobody said a thing.  Now it's all "systematically discriminatory"?  If anything, Perez and Co. coddled minority candidates on affirmative action logic, which in the end produced a weak field of candidates.

Why on Earth did Julián Castro merit a seat at the last debate?  The guy lost half his voters based on his dishonest attack on Joe Biden.  His views were repulsive, and he offered nothing of value to voters that they couldn't get from Bernie Sanders — or, more likely, nothing of value comparable to a Trump economy, which is the real factor driving Latinos away from this goof like a bad smell.  How about Kamala Harris, fake smiler, dirty cop record, and woman who slept her way to the top?  There's no such thing as a bad candidate of color?

Apparently not, at least not to the crazy left.

But it's frankly rather fun to see Perez squirm at the incompatibility of Democratic secret-ballot voting and affirmative action.  It's put a barrage of pressure on Perez, who is himself a minority, given that he can't deliver the minority candidate the woke leftists want.  He could, actually, but he would have to scrap the Democratic nomination process in favor of an affirmative-action diktat.

This has left him blaming Democratic voters for all that wicked racism that somehow kept them from wanting someone like Julián Castro or a goof like Spartacus at the top of their ticket to take on Darth Trump.  It couldn't be anything but racism, could it?  All it does is remind the rest of us that Democrats are the party of slavery, Jim Crow, and the Klan.

Perez can have one or the other, but he can't have both.  Nothing says "vote for Democrats" quite like a party chair who tells voters how racist they are behind that ballot box curtain.
